WE are Strategic Systems Group (SSG), a technology firm in L.A. County, California that provides financial management software and fully integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions for companies across the United States. For 30 years, we have been serving the technology needs of manufacturers and wholesale distributors in various sectors, including healthcare, defense, aerospace, and engineering.

THEY are Kherut, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in neighboring Orange County, California, dedicated to empowering survivors of sex trafficking, domestic violence, rape, prison, and young women aging out of the foster care system by providing employment training and mentorship for long-term career opportunities. Kherut’s unique and innovative business model is designed specifically for the needs of the survivor community.

OUR PATHS CROSSED not long ago when Kherut’s CFO was looking for an accounting system that would also meet their other unique business needs related to their food trucks, food preparation training classes, catering services, career training, and so much more. We were stunned to learn that sex-trafficking is a multi-billion dollar a year industry. And the victims don’t always come from third world countries, as perhaps we want to believe. There are victims right here, in our backyard, and yours, too.

THE STATISTICS are sobering. More than 90% of new human trafficking victims each year in Orange County, CA, are female U.S. residents trafficked for sex.

  • More than 86%+ of girls are U.S. citizens from local communities.
  • Girls are as young as 11-14 years old.
  • 71%+ of girls are coerced into “the life” when they are “aged-out” of foster care.
  • Social media has increased the vulnerability of girls.
  • COVID-19 has caused an even bigger surge.

WE could not turn our backs on their plight, not when we had the wherewithal to, at a minimum, provide some financial support. As a Microsoft partner, Strategic Systems Group is also exploring the opportunities that might be available to Kherut through Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact program.
